Welcome Inn Paper Kintsugi Technique

Welcome back to Alternative Tuesday! I'm so happy you stopped by! Let's create something out of the box with a Stampin' Up! Paper Pumpkin kit. The Paper Kintsugi Technique (as seen on Splitcoast Stampers) is used here with the Welcome Inn June 2023 Paper Pumpkin kit.  Kintsugi is the ancestral Japanese art of mending cracked pottery with gold dust. It symbolizes the beauty of imperfection because, well, cracks are a part of life.

The legend dates back to the 15th century. A Japanese emperor sent a broken tea bowl to China to be repaired. It must have been his favorite bowl. They did a horrible job repairing it, using ugly metal staples. Seeing the emperor's disappointment, Japanese artisans restored his cup more beautifully; using resin varnish to repair it and then elegantly decorating the cracks with gold dust.

Your turn! Tear your designer series paper into a few pieces, brush the torn edges along a clear Versamark pad then heat emboss with gold embossing powder. Glue the pieces back together onto your card front. It was very relaxing. Try it! Looks much better instead of stapling it, that's for sure!

    1. Thank you so much! I hadn't either until I saw the technique featured on Splitcoast Stampers. Then I did some research and thought it would be fun to try it! This paper reminded me of a China plate.
